This work explores the idea of presence through the act of imprinting the body onto canvas. The gesture refers to the familiar act of making handprints as a child: small, personal traces often given to parents or grandparents as a simple but meaningful gift.
For this project, Julia translated that intimate gesture into a larger spatial context. The work was developed for the interior of a major arthouse film production company in Amsterdam. Employees of the office were invited to leave their own imprints on canvas, which were then installed within the workspace.
The resulting series of prints functions almost like a quiet stage set. The imprints become silhouettes of the people who inhabit the building, creating a subtle theatrical atmosphere within the office. At the same time, the work remains deeply personal, capturing traces of the individuals who shape the place on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, documentation of the final installation is no longer available. The images shown here therefore only present the original imprint made by the artist herself.
